Arthur Edward Waite , creator of the famous deck Rider-Waite was born in the United States on October 2 1857 .
His father died when he was still a child and his mother, Emma Lovell, decided to return to England , his country 's origin. Not having the financial means of many of his family attended a small school Arthur Private in north London . At the age of thirteen years at St. Charles' College. After leaving the school uses, and began to write verse. His interest in the esoterimo begins when his sister Frederika died in 1874. Often visits the library of the British Museum to study the esoteric texts. In 1891 enters the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn in 1891, in 1901, became Mason . The frequent infighting within the Golden Dawn convince him to second in 1914.
Waite is primarily well-known as co-author of the tarot deck that bears his name, the most used and popular in the Anglo-Saxon world. The deck accompanied by the volume key of the Tarot (1910), was the first fully illustrated that all 78 cards, not just the 22 major arcana . Note that even the illustratie Pamela Colman Smith which assists in the edition of the Waite deck, belonged to the Golden Dawn .
Waite was a prolific author and many of his works were well received in academic circles. Translated and reissued several important texts of mysticism and alchemy. A fair number of his works is still printed. Waite died May 19, 1942.
